About St Benedict Catholic Academy Trust

St Benedict Catholic Academy Trust (SBCAT) is a growing family of primary and secondary Catholic schools serving communities across the Archdiocese of Southwark. Inspired by the values of St Benedict, the Trust is committed to delivering exceptional Catholic education where every child is encouraged to realise their God-given gifts and fulfil their potential.

Working collaboratively across its schools and Central Services teams, including School Improvement, HR, Finance, Estates Management, Governance and Compliance, SBCAT supports schools to achieve excellence and continuous improvement. The Trust has a strong track record of positive Ofsted outcomes, strong examination results and developing effective leadership and governance across its communities.

About the Role

St Benedict Catholic Academy Trust is seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals to serve as Foundation Governors across our family of schools. This is a rewarding voluntary role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people by supporting the strategic leadership and development of our schools.

As a Foundation Governor, you will work alongside fellow governors and school leaders to:

  • Uphold and promote the Catholic ethos and mission of the school.

  • Help shape the school's vision, values and strategic direction.

  • Support and challenge school leaders to ensure the highest standards of education and pupil achievement.

  • Monitor school performance and contribute to key decisions affecting the future of the school.

  • Act as a link between the school, parish, Diocese and wider community.

Skills and Experience Required

No previous governance experience is required. We welcome applications from people with a range of skills, backgrounds and professional experiences. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. Foundation Governors must be practicing Catholics and must be able to gain a reference from their parish priest.

Whether you work in education, business, finance, HR, law, healthcare, public service, or simply have a passion for supporting young people, your skills and experience could make a valuable contribution.

  • Time commitment: Typically, the role involves attending four meetings a year, undertaking annual training and making school visits. Foundation governors serve a four-year term of office.
