Parent and Child Stargazing Evening

On Tuesday (4th November), our familiar sports hall, canteen and drama studio were transformed to allow primary children and their parents to be transported for an unforgettable journey into the darkest reaches of the universe for a spectacular Parent and Child Stargazing evening.

The main attraction was an amazing inflatable planetarium immersive show. Our guide navigated constellations and explored the inner workings of our solar system.

The learning didn't stop once we left the darkness of the dome. The children participated in hands-on rocket building and launching activities. This was a massive hit. There was also a parent and child space quiz with a spaced themed music round.

Outside, high-quality reflecting telescopes and binoculars were set up, giving students the opportunity to take their own peek at the cosmos. Unfortunately, the skies did not clear but children were able to look at distant luminous objects closer to home.

To cap off the perfect evening, every child walked away with a fantastic gift bag packed with space-themed goodies, ensuring the excitement of the cosmos would continue at home. The Parent and Child Stargazing evening was a huge success.

The night was made possible thanks to the year 9 and 10 student helpers and members of the science team giving up their time, Lewisham Ogden Trust School Partnership, St Benedict Catholic Academy Trust and the Worshipful Glass Sellers of London.
