Leading Through Discovery: Year 9 STEM Mentors Inspire Local Primaries

This half term, our Year 9 STEM leaders have been busy proving that science is anything but boring. Taking on the role of mentors, they’ve continued to spark scientific curiosity in their Year 4 and 6 peers through a series of high-energy, hands-on experiments.

From chemistry to physics, our leaders didn't just teach—they inspired.

The Year 9s led a variety of "wow-factor" activities that left their younger peers eager to learn more. Highlights included:

  • Burp in the Pot: A crowd-favorite (and appropriately noisy) look at gas expansion.
  • Nappy Gel Experiment: Exploring the fascinating world of polymers and absorption.
  • Hover Discs: A sleek demonstration of friction and air pressure.
  • Milk Art: Using surface tension to create swirling, psychedelic masterpieces.

We were delighted to drop in to students at three local primary schools across two fantastic days:

Our Year 9 students provided a stellar example of leadership. They handled complex questions with ease and showed their younger peers that being a "scientist" is all about asking the right questions—and maybe getting a little messy in the process.

Well done to all our STEM leaders for representing the school so brilliantly!
